Ontario BASS Federation
Pleased To Announce New Tournament Director
For the last several years the Ontario BASS Federation (OBF) has had to rely on President Bob Peters to double his workload and act as both tournament director and president of Ontario ’s well established Bassmaster clubs. With OBF clubs that stretch from Windsor in the west to Ottawa in the east and then north to Muskoka, (as well as one in Nova Scotia ) Bob has been kept quite busy and for awhile has been looking for someone to take over the Tournament Director position. Fortunately, the president of the Peterborough Bassmasters has now stepped forward and taken on the role of Tournament Director for the OBF.
Reid Finlay has been a member of OBF for five years and president of Peterborough BASSMASTERS for the last three years. He is a member of OBF’s Financial Review Committee and with a Business Degree from Wilfred Laurier University he is aptly qualified. Reid fishes mainly Peterborough Bassmaster Club Tournaments and OBF Qualifiers but has also competed in other circuits. He is married with a son and daughter and calls the Kawartha Lakes based town of Peterborough as home base .
When asked to comment why he took on these extra duties, Reid responded
“ The main reason I decided to take on this important position is that Bob Peters has by default been the Tournament Director for the last few years. As members of the OBF, we all need to do our part and help him and our organization out. I decided that this year was my turn to do my part for the OBF and therefore put my name forward to be Tournament Director. Hopefully others will follow this trend in years to come."
As most Ontario Bassmasters already know, the 2004 Ontario BASS Federation Qualifier will be held on the bass rich waters of the Niagara River and Lake Erie this coming August 28 and 29. There will be a great deal of planning and work to be done before an event of this nature takes place. In fact, a group of Bassmasters from southwestern Ontario have already been busy organizing this event since late last year.
When asked about on this upcoming championships tournament, Reid replied "I plan on working with the Niagara Team to ensure we have a well run event with attention paid to procedure and rules. In addition, I look forward to working with our OBF Executive in putting together a plan that will help solidify funding for Team Ontario and our National Contender.’ He concluded by saying, “I look forward to the challenges ahead and hope to see many of my fellow Ontario Bassmasters this summer at our popular Hank Gibson Memorial OBF Qualifier ".
