I would suggest before anyone comes to any conclusions for next year you might want to call Andy once the classic is over.
Also Vita's father is in very serious condition so I doubt much can be answered or accomplished for a few days. I'm sure we all feel for Vita who does so much for us and hope and pray for the best.
All I can convey for now is that some fine tuning is in order so a little patience and well wishes might be in order.

Interesting thread.
P.S. - 20 lb smallie bags on Quinte are the very rare exception, not the norm. also, Mark makes a valid point on angler strengths on regional waters (i.e. smallies vs largie specialists).

No there not. Oh I mean yes they are, don't waste your time looking for them thet're not there. lol!

Persnally i think the changes are a step in the right direction. Everybody wanted to get back to some sort of guaranteed paybacks and we have a start to that now. Its the only thing that has worked in the past with Chev/Mariner, CFT, and Reel Fishing series.
The last three poles all dictated that the majority wanted Lake Simcoe as the Classic site, we now have that for next year. The other major concern was to many people in the classic which i agreed with also. We now have just the top 20 going for the main Classic. It will be tough, i agree but it should be tough. Its no easier in any other sport. In Hockey last year the Kings barely made it in but ended up winning the cup taking out one of the favorite in the first round. So yes you could have a decent showing in the Regional and come in 25th and not make it to the main show. But once you get into the playoffs you have a great showing not a mediocre showing.
When you have that many divisions, its not easy to come up with a good formula that will suite everyone. At least you have enough lakes to pick from so that you can custmize your schedule. That comes at a price because the field for the classic will be high due to the number of divisions. The Regional is one fair way to fix that one.
At the end of the day, you can not please everyone but at least the CSFL is trying to make changes in the right direction and Mike & I will be there as we really like the changes even though we do terrible on lake Simcoe.
Good Job CSFL

Everyone should let Andy do what he does best RUN THE BEST SERIES IN CANADA and for those guys that are in the upper field will now have to work as hard as the regulars anglers to qualify for the classic and now are putting up a fuss for that reason no more fishing ur local water and off you go stop the whining and if you cant fish a series because you work well so do the rest of us and mmost like what Andy and Vita are doing and i for one have been fishing with him since he started and has only thought of what is best for all Anglers not just some of them JUST MY TWO CENTS?fishon

Cesare well stated!! :clap :clap :clap

I think that many guys are pumped about the guaranteed paybacks. As it's been mentioned many times in this thread and others, it's certainly a step in the right direction.
In the future, in order for guaranteed paybacks to continue, the fields will have to be guaranteed. By that I mean get back to where they've been in the past or even better. This year showed a fairly significant drop in boat numbers at many events. This new announcement doesn't seem like it will be helping numbers.
Sure the Classic lake is Simcoe but some may question the credibility of such a pole. Simcoe won percentage wise but I can't remember the last time the lake with the most votes was actually chosen. Not only that, I heard from a few guys that you could simply log out or shut down your browser and re-enter to vote multiple times so how many guys actually voted? I guess my single vote didn't go far....lol
As to Neil's point earlier, I don't think guys should get to chose the Classic location. However, many guys would probably a appreciate a lake that is more neutral but it's only a smaller Classic field that permits this.
We'll see how things play out...

I think there have been some great comments both pro and con for the changes CSFL have made. I too have some concerns about the new changes, and the primary one will be added time away from home and work to prefish not to mention added cost to an already expensive sport.
I do respect the fact that Andy is willing to listen to what the Anglers concerns are, but what I respect even more is that he doesn't bow to the pressure that gets put on him to make the rash or unfair changes. He has a long list of anglers to please, some are very very good, and some are just learning the sport. He cannot make changes just to satify the top anglers, and he cant make changes just to make the newbies happy.
I will honestly say I am on the fence about the changes, and I will let the changes sink in and look at the calander and see exactly what they mean to my 2013 schedule. At the same time I really think it is a good thing that it is going to be harder to make the CSFL Classic!!:clap
I will say this, it looks like the 2013 classic will be a very, very well respected win!

I think most people are pleased about the guaranteed pay backs. Just don't know why he has to change the Classic format. I believe that he could have cut the size of the field by simply cutting back on the amount of boats that qualify for the classic down to the top 5 or top 10 from every division and that would have solved that problem. I believe that's what most people are trying to say. That would make it just as hard to qualify for the classic. If your in the top five of any division you've done well and deserve to go to the classic and are the elite in your division and deserve a shot at the big prize. It just seems like there is going to be too much money and time spent with this new format for the average person. I don't think anybody is knocking Andy or Vita for the work that they have done. This guaranteed pay back is a step in the right direction but this new classic format is too much at this point for the average angler. By average angler I mean like most of us who have full time jobs in other fields and are not full time anglers.
My opinion only

I think you need to keep it as a percentage. Top 5 or 10 from every division is unfair. Great lakes have 25-30 anglers so 1/3 of the feild, and Centrals have 80+ so 1/8 of the field. It has to be a percentage to keep it fair across the board.
But that said, it sure is tough to make it to the classic when you have to win your divsion, or place in the top 20 in the regional. Sometimes you just need to be careful what you ask for!!

Caugth wind of this thread yesterday and taking a bit of time to chime in for what it is worth.
Amaizing thread - from my perspective, my tournament routine has always been about fishing the fish - no advantagious locations that favour my style of fishing on this lake or that lake, smallmouth vs. largemouth, having the time or money to practise or any other cabillion excuses that seem to dominate a surprising number of angler's tournament strategies these days? It blows my mind at how many people disect these schedules and qualifying proceedures! My only limitation is flat out cashola - if I can afford to fish an event I want to fish - I do - if I don't have the scratch - I don't - pretty simple formula for me... Financial survival is really my only limitation as I beleive it is with most of us (whether thats straight up cash flow or the ability to get away from work, same difference).
If you get too caught up in the all the logistics, locations, payback structures, starting positions, and qualifying crap I guarentee you 100% it will only take away from your fishing ability on the water. Your job as a competitive angler is to fish and do your absolute best at the scales and in promoting our sport both on and off the water; not organise tournaments, come up with the best tour locations, or best payback structures, or pick apart the things you like or don't like about them? - that is up to tournament organisations and their people.
The best thing you can do to voice your concerns or present ideas about a given circuit or event is to approach the organisers and owners directly - bar none. Whether they choose to listen or make changes is really not here nor there...
It has been said that life is three things:
1 - What do you want (make the CSFL Classic)
2 - What does it cost (compete successfully in any one of the CSFL Tours, make the top 20 at Quinte)
3 - And if it is worth it to "you" - PAY THE PRICE!
If you want to make that CSFL Classic next year you need to pick a tour, fish your butt off - make that Quinte event and finish in the top 20. Will it be tough, absolutely - "it's supposed to be" - it's what a lot of you have been asking for. My advise for those sitting on the fence is to not worry about all the who's, the where's, and the how's.... Simply put - look at your options and make your own decision whether it is worth it for you or not. One thing is for sure, someone is going to win that Classic, there is no reason at all that it can't be you! I don't care if you consider yourself a smallie expert or a largemouth guru, deep or shallow expert, or whatever - to be successful on the water you have to be versatile!
Whether you like or dislike the format is irrevlevant in my opinion; in truth, I don't know if I am for or against it? - I haven't really given it much thought, and probably won't - it is what it is! I will register whatever events I choose to fish next season, fish hard in all of them, have a ball doing what I absolutely love to do - and if the fishing-gods are kind and I work hard enough at it, it'll all work out and I'll see 19 of you at Simcoe :)!
The CSFL is the longest standing tour we have in this part of the tournament world, they need to be commended for their dedication and "stick-to-it-iveness". Kinger you said it man - be careful what some of you have asked the CSFL for - these changes are assuredly a direct result of what many of you have asked for in recent years! Time to anti-up for some of you... Get back to the fishing and get rid of the "he should have done this and she should have done that" mentality - it will only detract from your fishing and dicesion making on the water!
and in the words of Forest Gump, "that's all I have to say about that".

Well said Pete, man you got a lot of time on your hands but well said.

Great attitude Pete and Well said. :clap:clap

Well said Pete...:clap:clap:clap:clap

Never mind the classic... this is what many guys wanted. Better pay backs. Now its here for each event. Whats all the fuss?

Very well said pete.:clap

horray Pete you nailed it :clap

personally, I see no problem with the size of the field for the Classic,I think it looks great on the sport and supports the economy in the hosting city or town and surrounding areas. Really 20% of a division I dont see as that bad! I find it very hard to compete against guys who can prefish everyday of the week previous to every tournament they fish, unfortunately I am not that financially well off , and have to work 5 days through the week and can usually only get out for a day before an event. Yeah sometimes it feels like I just give my money away! But I love the sport and the competitiveness! So sometimes when I see some guys who have been in the money throughout the season, want to cut out the guys who have been helping them pay for there gas all season it kinda rubs me wrong!
-
Honestly, my attitude is "It's Andy's game and I just want to play". If he does anything, that's his business, remember he's running his business. It's not my place to voice my opinion on what he decides to do. At the end of the day the CSFL recieves a small part of what I pay to fish tourney's. Who fishes the CSFL, where we fish, and when is Andy's decision. I see non of the competitors (except to wave), dont care what they think or do, I suceed and fail but at no time do I hold Andy responsible for my tournament enjoyment.
-
Look he is clearly making it a FAIR across the board series that include BM 100 those are the up and comers and lets them in the game as well

One thing I will say about this format is that it forces Anglers from all Tours to be more versatile. Going from one extreme to the other just means if you want to win the classic, you’re going to need to learn to fish both species. You can’t expect to win with LM on Simcoe so it doesn’t matter what you fished at the Regional. I think to be a complete angler in our tours up here you need to master both species. Saying that an event on Quinte cuts out the SW Tour SM fisherman makes you wonder if they are “elite” and truly deserve to make the classic, or if they’ve only mastered one or two ways to catch the same kind of fish…Just a thought ;)

Progressive format change, way to go Andy and his Team
two thumbs up.
Looking forward to next year.
