Wondering how anglers feel about the use or not of this rig in TB tournaments this year. Should there be a limit to the kinds of rigs allowed or does anything go?

Are you asking this on behalf of Ted ?
Last time someone took it upon themselves to do a survey for a tournament series on BFB it caused the owners a bit of anguish.
Na Mike thats not Jacks thing.Ithink the main thing in any tourney is a even playing field,so i say throw that thing in a pile of weeds on the lakes we fish and if ya get em good for you.Ill have one on next weekend.
Randy you cant use them in the 6 inches of water you fish in lol.
Randy doesn't fish in 6" of water, thats where the boat sits. He is sight fishing dorsal fins in 3" of water!:D
Gonna need a steel pole to throw it around the Kawartha Lakes. Pick up so much weed with 5 hooks, it will take a steel pole to pull the rig back to the boat. Or maybe you will be pulling the boat back to the rig:O
Kinda like using an 800 lb. goalie isn't it? Not very sporting.
You can still score on an 800 pound goalie due to a very large 5-hole and can't bend over. OK that sounds wrong.Quote:

I just think if the MNR/regs allow it then its alright but in tournaments its totally up to the series... I don't really think it should be allowed
I think we all need to consider what exactly we are trying to ban here. Is it a particular lure or a multi hook presentation?
If you feel its multi hook presentation, lets include drop shot incorporating a jighead as the weight, double fluke (donkey) rig & tail-gunner topwater rig too.
Mike - No I'm absolutely not asking this on behalf of Ted or anybody else. Just myself (I tend to fish shallow water and can't quite picture using a rig like that in the crapola I love to fish). the rig was banned in the BASS Elite series if I'm not mistaken. Just curious what others thought about it.Quote:

Whoooops. Should have made a post on the Bass Tournament Talk page as there is already a thread there on the topic.
Jack, it runs in a bath tub, it will run weedless as well ! This rig has uses 3/0 EWG texas rigged swim baits
Alabama Rig - Video Link
That looks cool Mike. I can't wait to try a rig this summer. Looks like the flipping stick will be used for another purpose.
I think in ontario we're limited to three hooks, but I could be mistaken.
This rig reminds me of a cliched joke where when the angler doesn't know what to tie on, he just ties everything on and starts flailing. Or those crappie boats with eight rods spidered off the bow in holders.
I see this as a huge difference from a two-lure rig...even fly fishing purisits will fish a dry fly with a nymph dropper.
Lets call it what it is: The Alabama Spreader.
Yes, allow it.
I,am still on fence on this one:?
Mike you got to much time on your hands,go for the hot tub next time.lol
The "Quotes" below was copied & pasted "directly" from the 2012 MNR Fishing Regulations.
Please note the last sentance of the "Hooks & Lines" quote
Hook – A hook includes a single-pointed or multiple-pointed hook on a common shaft but does not include a snagger or spring gaff. The number of hooks includes any single-pointed or multiple-pointed hooks that are part of a lure.
Hooks and Lines – An angler may use only one line, unless otherwise stated in the regulations. Two lines may be used when angling from a boat in parts of the Great Lakes (see exceptions to the general regulations) and for ice fishing in many areas (see Ice Fishing, page 11). A fishing line must not have more than four hooks attached.
Lol, not any more...new swimbait molds are in and we will have lots for the Spring Fishing and Boating show in FebQuote:

Nice Jeff, but that seems to me like an old regulation that needs updating.Quote:

I can't think of any reason one would need four hooks on a line except in the instance of a 4-way icefishing spreader...and this new schooling spreader concept that started with the Alababma rig (5 really). Since there are already special allowances for ice fishermen and two rods, let ice-fishing have a special allowance for 4 hooks, and make open-water a 3 hook limit.
With this coming into greater public scrutiny, I fear we will have unscrupulous people with 4 treble drop shot rigs snagging up schools of bass. By the current definition this would be a quasi legal rig.
The way the regulations read, four hooks are allowed, that makes this rig allowed,in Ontario, nuff said,I have a dozen already, from the original maker???Have a great year, see you at the scales???:P
I guess it was only a matter of time until someone tinkered with this rig. Here is what I found.

imagine trowing that on pigeon Tony youd bring back 5lbs of weeds per cast.
I want one of those!!!
Peace Out
Dan
Tell me they are calling that "The Buzz Kill":D:D
Scares me a bit when the baits are bigger than the fish I catch! You should have seen what 10" worms did to my ego!?LOL
Hey radny - no way those Pigeon lake muskies would miss your buzzer throwing that deal :)
need a real tiff rod just to pull all the weeds in,Pete you need to invent the 4 frog flock harness.
I will throwing it as its a new tool and bait for all of us to learn more about the great sport we love. Remeber the days of Gulp wanting to be banned, the original Rapala, the original worm etc. These are all new baits for us to catch fish and as we have seen in the past you just don't cast a lure anywhere and catch monster fish we have to learn how to catch them. You would think that the new electronics, cameras, bio sonix etc would be banned but know its just an advantage and new tool to use for anglers.
I disagree with comparing the rig with any new lure. The fact is it is FOUR lures on one line. It is basically like using four rods at once. It's not a hot new lure at all. It's basically a cheater rig that perch fishermen have been using to harvest more meat for years.
We call tournament fishing a sport. This is not sporting to use four lures at once. I
Set a couple of those aside for me Tony!
I'm going to give those buzz rigs a shot and see how they turn out. I'll keep a few for you Mark if they turn out well.
Me too! I will be at the Spring Show... I would like 3 please. :)
Peace Out
Dan
Don't know if they will be ready by then Dan, but will let you know when I do have them.
Cool
