Montreal, March 23rd, 2010
Press Release
For immediate release
The event that took the Canadian fishing scene by storm just last year is back, bigger and better than ever! Enter the return of the Berkley B1 Canadian Bass Open,
regarded as the most prestigious contest in the competitive fishing scene. This October 2nd & 3rd, the Berkley B1 sets up camp on the most exciting body of
water for bass fishing in the country today. The city of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield located in Quebec near the Ontario border, will play host to the 2 day extravaganza
as the best professional anglers in the country ascend onto the pristine waters of Lake St-Francis. “The Berkley B1 is without question the most anticipated and
talked about fishing event in Canada” states Ben Woo, President, Berkley B1. “With now over $95,000 in cash and prizes, the absolute biggest names in the
business participating as well as industry leading sponsors that are motivated to take tournament fishing to the next level, this year’s Berkley B1 is re-writing history
all over again.”
Since the opening of registrations for competitors in January, applications have been pouring in. The support from both the local Quebec angling community
and as far reaching as the shores of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia to the northern town of Sault-Ste-Marie, Ontario, anglers everywhere are flocking to be a part of the
Berkley B1 experience. “Berkley is ecstatic about the return of this great event.” expresses Chris Hockley, Marketing Manager, Pure Fishing Canada. “Being the title
sponsor of this elite competition provides us the opportunity to support the competitive angling community on a national level and communicate the quality and
performance of our products to fishing enthusiasts.”
The Berkley B1 is proud to announce the addition of two new partners that will be playing very active roles in adding to the event. First, known as the largest
retailer of fishing and outdoor goods in Eastern Canada, the mega-store chain known as Sail has signed on as the “official retailer of the Berkley B1”. With over 40
years in the fishing industry and now seven locations throughout Quebec, Sail represents the retail solution that serves anglers with incredible product selection and
services. “Partnering with the Berkley B1 further communicates our long standing commitment to providing the very best equipment available to anglers. The Sail
Superbag Award represents our recognition of great accomplishments in fishing and we hope it provides that extra motivation to go for gold.” states Richard Viger,
Marketing Director, Sail. And going for gold is precisely what 300x of the best bass anglers will have in mind. Sail adds to the ante an impressive bonus prize of
$2,000.00 in gift certificates awarded to the team that weighs in the heaviest bag of the competition surpassing the existing Canadian record of 30.35lbs.
BFGoodrich Tires has also stepped up to the plate and is thrilled about getting involved in fishing. With a long standing pedigree in the motorsport arena,
BFGoodrich Tires feels that associating with competitive angling is the perfect fit. “We know that these anglers take their equipment extremely seriously. For every
performance boat on the water, there is a tow vehicle that got it there” claims Robert Haggart, Sponsorships & Events Manager, BFGoodrich Tires. “We want anglers
to know that our tires are the right choice to get them where they need to go. Whether it’s pavement, dirt, mud or sleet, BFGoodrich is the choice for serious
competitors.” New to the 2010 Berkley B1, is the BFGoodrich Big Bass Award, presented to the team that weighs the heaviest single fish of the event. The winners
receive a set of BFGoodrich SUV/Truck tires each with a potential total value of $3,000.00.
To some, fishing may simply be a recreational pass time. To others, especially those who have signed up for the Berkley B1, fishing means so much more.
With six months remaining in the countdown before the event, the anticipation continues to build and new features and announcements await to be revealed. The
2010 edition of the Berkley B1 Canadian Bass Open is positioned to take competitive bass fishing to a whole new level. Some will fish for the money, while others
will fish for the fame. All however, will fish to be the best, to B the 1.
